Week 9 Reflection
I really enjoyed this weeks application assignment. It was challenging and yet it was insightful to take a look at a company through a different lens. It certainly interesting how some companies claim to be an NGO or Non-profit and yet don't measure up when you put them to a numbers test. You really can learn a lot about companies when you put them to the numbers test.
I was really impressed with the case analysis and the company that we were tasked to analyze. I didn't know much about Timberland at all other than they were a shoe manufacturer. Now I know they are so much more than that. The social innovations that they are doing and creating within their organization is huge. The one thing that really stood out to me was the fact that the core values were instilled in each employee within the corporation.
I think that this is the perfect lesson to help me to analyze a company before I go and put my time and effort into helping or giving financial support too. It really helps to understand a company from the inside out and to ensure that they are truly trying to make a difference or just acting like it. When you put them through the numbers test you can see if they are really doing what they say they are doing or not. I know that there are organizations that I want to be involved with but, haven't really looked at them in any way to ensure they are a worthy organization to put my talents towards.
